PHEV MHEV Hybrid cars for sale - Test drive Essex
You might have heard of Mild hybrids or seen MHEV and PHEV written on car descriptions on used car adverts but maybe you are not quite sure what it is. Well, here we go.
A mild hybrid car ( MHEV) works pretty much just like and normal car,with the difference being that a small battery is added to the existing engine in order to boost the efficiency of the engine and most importantly, reduce the emissions. This tends to operate by allowing the engine to cut its power when coming to a stop, allowing a start/stop system to keep the engine off for longer and offer an electric boost on acceleration. It does not feel any different to a normal petrol/ diesel engine other than you have the knowledge and evidence that your fuel econmoy has ot better and your carbon footprint whilst driving is lower than a more standard non hybrid petrol or diesel engined car. You dont have to worry about charging the cars battery as all MHEV's are self charging.
PHEV's are a again slightly different. PHEV (Plug in Electric vehicle ) cars are FULL HYBRID in operation. With a bigger battery on board , these cars can drive full electric for 35-40 miles as well as taking over from the engine on normal driving. So, you plug in , charge up ( 3.5 hours on a 7.5Kw charge point of 5-6 hours from a normal plug point in the garage) and you can either drive full electric , fully petrol / diesel or the mix of both. Now this is the good bit.....faster charging than a full EV and massive improvements on fuel economy ( 120mpg Combined on the Ford Kuga PHEV) and ABSOLUTELY NO RANGE ANXIETY as when the electric runs out ( which it hardly ever does) you just drive that car like a normal petrol car again until you can plug it back in.
